Your Visit

We look forward to welcoming you to the Pankhurst Centre, where our Museum has been transformed by the exhibition At Home with the Pankhurst Family, which showcases the life and work of radical history maker Emmeline Pankhurst and her family.

Opening Hours: The Pankhurst Centre museum, tearoom and shop are open every Thursday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm (last entry is 3pm). People can also visit the garden throughout the week, when the garden gates are open. We love offering a beautiful green space for people to enjoy.

Last entry: 3pm.

Booking Tickets: Please book a ticket and timed entry slot for every person in your group (maximum of six). There are 10 places available per timed entry slot, so we limit tickets to six per booking. For groups of more than 6 people please contact us. Tel: 0161 273 5673 Email: hello@pankhursttrust.org

Can I just turn up on the day? We are happy to take ‘on the door’ bookings if there are sufficient places available. It may be possible to wait in our garden or tearoom whilst space becomes available in the Museum. However, if we are booked up we may on occasions have to turn people away.

Entrance Fee: Tickets on our open days remain FREE but donations really do help to keep our (unfunded) museum open. Please consider making a £5 donation when booking your ticket(s). You can also make a donation inside the museum,

Guided tours: We offer exclusive guided tours on Fridays. Please contact us for information and prices. Tel: 0161 273 5673 Email: hello@pankhursttrust.org

School visits: Please visit our ‘Learn’ page for information about prices and how to book your school trip.

Our Covid-prevention measures: We control the flow of people through the museum by limiting tickets available in each time slot and operate a one-way system through our spaces where possible. Hand sanitiser is available in the museum entrance and in other places throughout the Pankhurst Centre. All frequently touched surfaces are cleaned regularly by our volunteers.

Tearoom: We have a tiny tearoom where you can purchase light refreshments (teas, coffee, snacks). You can also enjoy your refreshments outside in our lovely garden (weather permitting).

Shop: Our Suffragette Shop has a range of books, gifts, and souvenirs for children and adults. There are regular special offers or new items available, depending on the time of year. Prices range from 60p for our exclusive postcards and £1 for our exclusive Be A Rebel wristband, up to £25 for a signed hardback copy of Helen Pankhurst’s book Deeds Not Words, which was launched here at the Pankhurst Centre in 2018 to celebrate the centenary of some women getting the vote.

Find out the answers to our FAQs

  1. When Are You Open?

We’re open every Thursday and Sunday from 11am -4pm (last entry 3pm) for most of the year. We close for Christmas bank holidays and throughout January, for museum maintenance and volunteer training, so that we can continue to improve our visitor experience.

  2. Why Are You Not Open More Often?

We are an unfunded museum, and rely on visitor donations and a wonderful team of volunteers to open to the public. If you’d like to volunteer with us, check out more details here

  3. Do we hold information on your suffragette ancestors?

Unfortunately not. The National Archives are a great place to start your search. We can give you more ideas for places to search if you contact us at hello@pankhursttrust.org

  4. Do we need to book to visit?

We would advise you to book your tickets in advance, as we are a small museum with limited capacity. We are happy to accept ‘on the door’ bookings if places are available and it may be possible to grab a cuppa in our tearoom or wait in our garden until space becomes available. However, regretfully, on occasions we may have to turn people away. You can book your tickets by clicking the buttons on this page.

  5. Do we have to pay to visit the museum?

Tickets are free, but as an unfunded museum, we rely on donations to keep the museum running. We’d encourage therefore, making a donation if you can afford to do so, when you book your ticket. You can also give a donation in cash, by card or by using our QR code once inside the museum or via our website

  6. Do you run tours?

Yes! We run exclusive guided tours on Fridays (and occasionally at other times), with a number of fun options depending on the needs or wishes of your group. To make enquiries please email us at hello@pankhursttrust.org or call us on 0161 273 5673.

  7. Where are you?

We’re not far from the city centre, the universities and the hospital. We’re located on Nelson Street, within the Manchester University NHS Foundation Hospital Trust site. Our building is opposite MRI Hospital’s Accident & Emergency and Outpatients Departments. You can reach us by bus along Oxford Road. There’s also a bike rack onsite, and a multi-storey car park next door. We don’t have any public parking onsite. You can see more information on how to find us, above.

  8. Do you have information available in other languages?

Yes. Our Pankhurst Centre Fact File is available in Mandarin (官话), Italian (IT), Spanish (ES), and German (DE). You can download each translation here.
